St. James' School

St. James' School, with its roots tracing back to its establishment in 1864, has weathered numerous challenges throughout its rich history. Inaugurated by the esteemed Most Revd. George Edward Cotton, the Bishop of Calcutta, on 25th July 1864, the school embarked on a journey marked by resilience and perseverance.

In its initial two decades, the school encountered substantial financial hardships, which ultimately led to its closure in December 1904. This period was fraught with struggles, posing significant challenges to the school's existence and operations. The closure of the institution stirred a profound response among parents, well-wishers, and former students, reflecting the deep sentimental attachment and the perceived value of the school in the community.

However, in 1907, a pivotal turning point emerged with the intervention of the Church Education League, providing crucial financial support. This assistance served as a catalyst for the revival of St. James' School, marking a resurgence after the period of closure and financial adversity.

Despite the tumultuous phases in its history, the school's commitment to academic excellence endured. The challenges faced in the past have strengthened the institution's resolve to uphold rigorous academic standards and provide a nurturing educational environment. St. James' School continues to embody resilience, overcoming adversities to offer quality education and contribute to the growth and development of its students.
