About School
St. Agnes School, Kharagpur, initiated its educational journey in January 1951. It stands as an esteemed English medium institution overseen by the Sisters of the Apostolic Carmel. Operated by the Apostolic Carmel Educational Society under the Roman Catholic Bishop of Kolkata, the school embodies the essence of a Catholic educational institution, placing Christ at its core for inspiration and guidance.
The values upheld in the Beatitudes find expression in the virtues of love, sincerity, justice, and freedom, permeating the school's ethos. This nurturing atmosphere warmly welcomes individuals of all faiths, fostering an environment where they are embraced, supported, and encouraged to grow while being gently challenged.
The school received recognition from the Educational Department of the Government of West Bengal in various stages: as a Primary School in 1953 (Govt. order No. 4921 Edn. dated 15/16th June 1963) and later as a Higher Secondary School in 1967 (Order No. 1795 Edn-M dated 6th Sept 1967). Its academic program prepares students for the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) Examination in Class X and the Indian School Certificate (ISC) in Class XII. These examinations align with the requirements of Central Government boards/universities and also serve as a qualification for employment within the Indian Railways.
The medium of instruction across all levels is English, supplemented by compulsory learning of either Bengali or Hindi as a second language. Additionally, students from Class V to VIII have the option to study Hindi or Bengali as a third language.
The academic framework at St. Agnes School is designed to provide a holistic and sound educational experience, nurturing students not only academically but also in moral and ethical development, preparing them for success in various pursuits beyond the classroom.
