About School
The institution's origins trace back to 1899 when the Bengal Nagpur Railway established the BNR European School, initially exclusive to the ruling European community. Admission opened gradually to the Anglo-Indian Community and later to Indians post-Independence. Renamed multiple times, it evolved into the S.E. Railway Mixed High School (EM) affiliated with the Council for Indian School Certificate Examination, New Delhi.
By 1943, it attained the status of a High School, guiding students toward the Senior Cambridge Examination. Subsequently, in 1975, it expanded to offer the plus two level in three streams: Science, Humanities, and Commerce. Over time, the school has grown, currently hosting around 900 students, earning recognition as the Best School in S.E. Railway on eight occasions.
The school's history reflects a transition from a staff dominated by European or Anglo-Indian educators to the inclusion of Indian teaching staff, notably marked by Miss G. Bagchi as the first Indian staff member in 1936. Mr. B.N. Roy further contributed as the first Head of the Institution from February 1961, signifying a significant shift in the school's leadership.
