About School

Euphraise Barbier, a beacon of courage and vision, founded the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions on Christmas Day in 1861, in Lyons, France. Born to humble beginnings on January 4, 1829, to Louis Desir Barbier and Jeanne Adele Le Clere, Euphraise, baptized on the day of her birth, grew up with an unwavering faith instilled by her devout parents.

From a tender age, Euphraise harbored grand dreams of serving God and humanity. Raised in the traditional Catholic faith, she embraced a life intertwined with the rigorous experiences of her social class until the age of 19. Her Christian faith and upbringing laid the foundation for her profound love for God and an intense desire to become a missionary to foreign lands.

In 1848, Euphraise embarked on a transformative journey by joining the Sisters of Calvary, a pioneering missionary Institute established at Cuves. Little did anyone know that this resolute and compassionate young woman was destined for an exalted purpose, leading to the establishment of an international missionary congregation that continues to make a lasting impact on the world. Euphraise Barbier's story is one of resilience, faith, and a remarkable commitment to fulfilling a divine calling.

Other Information

Our academic tapestry at National Gems School weaves a rich cultural and educational mosaic. Bengali and Hindi, as second languages, and French, as a third language, are threads in the fabric of linguistic proficiency we nurture. Our commitment extends beyond the conventional, incorporating Indian Classical Dances, Music, Art, Physical Training, and Experiential Learning into the very warp and weft of our curriculum.

Recognizing that character is the compass guiding one through life, we consider character formation paramount. Thus, our educational journey is fortified with the solid pillars of Value Education and lessons on Moral Conduct, sculpting students into not just scholars, but individuals of integrity.

In the symphony of holistic development, extra-curricular activities compose an essential movement. Debates, dramas, games, quizzes, music, arts, and singing are harmonious expressions that resonate in our academic corridors. Beyond the classroom, students are encouraged to participate in these activities, where the cadence of practice after school hours, on Saturdays, and even Sundays may be deemed compulsory. This not only enhances their skills but instills a sense of discipline and commitment, fostering well-rounded individuals poised for academic excellence and personal growth.
