About School
In the fertile grounds of collaboration and vision, the genesis of D.H.B Road Aurobindo Vidyamandir traces back to 1976. Within the corridors of the Jadavpur University Alumni Association Durgapur Branch, a noble idea was conceived - an English Medium school to nurture the budding minds of Durgapur. It was the inspired leadership of Sri Tripurari Chatterjee, then President of the Association, that breathed life into this aspiration, supported by the dedicated efforts of several individuals. Notably, the invaluable contributions of Lt. Sri Ramlal Banerjee, alongside a core group including Sri A.K. Mahapatra, Sri Probuddha Bhattacharya, Sri Ashish Das Sharma, and others, laid the groundwork for this ambitious project.
The initial step materialized when Dr. Gokul Mukherjee, then G.M of Alloy Steel Plant, extended support by allocating 2A, Kanishka Road as the school's starting point. The moniker "Aurobindo Vidyamandir" was proposed by Dr. Gokul Mukherjee, drawing on Sri Aurobindo's association with the University, highlighting his pivotal role in the inception of the National Council of Education, which later evolved into the esteemed Jadavpur University.
In its evolutionary journey, the school burgeoned in student numbers, necessitating a larger abode. Consequently, land on Harshabardhan Road was leased from DSP, laying the foundation stone in 1984, symbolizing a significant milestone under the auspices of Sri M.C. De Tarafdar, ED, ASP, and the then President of the Alumni Association. This transformative shift heralded the school's renewed vigor, marking the dawn of a new chapter.
Throughout its odyssey, luminaries like Mrs. Namita DharGupta, Sri Debesh Chandra Roy, Sri Suhash Chandra Bhattacharya, and Mrs. Aditi Ghosh etched their indelible imprints in the annals of the institution. Presently, under the astute leadership of Mrs. Sarmistha Laha as Principal and Mrs. Sumita Mishra as Vice-Principal, the school marches forward with a zealous commitment, scripting a narrative of progress and positive impact for its students and the community at large.
