Calcutta Boys' School

The CBS Monogram, adopted in 1897 by the Calcutta Christian Schools Society, encapsulates a profound commitment to education through its heraldic symbolism.

At its core lies a shield of vibrant red, embellished with a smaller inescutcheon bearing two Maltese crosses and two elephant heads, alongside a silver cross of St. George, the patron saint of education. These elements speak volumes: the Maltese crosses symbolize blessings, while the elephants signify both the strength and wit intrinsic to India, our cherished motherland.

Embedded within this intricate design is the representation of the Methodist (Episcopal) Church, embodied by the Bishop's mitre and two black stars, subtly positioned atop the shield. These symbols honor the Church's influence and presence within the CBS framework.

Adorning the crest is a lamp, a dual embodiment of our Savior, Jesus Christ—"the Light of the World"—and a powerful symbol of knowledge, illuminating the path forward for CBS and its educational mission.

Flanking the shield are mythical beasts, griffins rampart, embodying the amalgamation of eagle and lion traits—dexterity, insight, majesty, and power—further reinforcing the ideals upheld by CBS.

The scroll beneath the shield bears the motto "Dei Mundus Deo" (The World of God, for God), eloquently encapsulating CBS's mission to blend worldly knowledge with divine principles. Moreover, the inscription "Maxima Debetur Puero Reverentia" beneath the establishment year underscores the paramount importance of respecting and nurturing the potential within every child.

In essence, the CBS Monogram is not merely a confluence of visual elements; it's a powerful emblem that encapsulates the unwavering dedication and commitment of the Calcutta Christian Schools Society to the noble pursuit of education, founded upon both earthly wisdom and spiritual enlightenment.
