Overview
"Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan's commitment to reinforce NTA comes at a crucial time, amid intense debates surrounding NEET-UG and UGC-NET. This move is essential for maintaining fairness and integrity in the examination system."
The Education Minister has also promised to take action against those accountable for the reported irregularities in the exam administration.
Amid an ongoing dispute over the 2024 National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-Undergraduate (NEET-UG) and the University Grants Commission-National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET), Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan stated that the National Testing Agency will be further strengthened by "reconsidering important aspects."
The Education Minister has assured that action will be taken against those responsible for the alleged irregularities in the examinations. He mentioned that a committee of experts will be formed to probe into the issues pertaining to the functioning of the National Testing Agency (NTA). The government is committed to holding zero-error exams and a high-level committee has been announced to improve NTA's functioning. The Education Minister also assured the students that the government is responsible for finding solutions to their concerns and urged them to have faith. The NEET-UG exam results showed irregularities and paper leaks, prompting protests. As a result, the UGC-NET exam held on June 18 was cancelled, and a CBI inquiry has been initiated. The NEET-UG examination, for admission to medical and related courses, is conducted by the NTA.
Please take note of the following information: The NEET-UG 2024 examination took place on May 5, and the results were announced on June 4, earlier than the scheduled release date of June 14. There were protests alleging irregularities and paper leaks, as the results revealed that 67 students had achieved a perfect score of 720, leading to concerns. The NEET-UG exam, administered by the National Testing Agency (NTA), is for admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other related courses in government and private institutions across the country.
