Overview

Supreme Court ruling allows for the cancellation of NEET results for 1563 candidates and Requires a re-examination.

The Center informed the Supreme Court on Tuesday that the NEET UG results of 1563 candidates, who were given grace marks, will be canceled.

The Supreme Court of India has approved the center's proposal to conduct a re-test and invalidate the results of 1,563 candidates who received grace marks in the NEET 2024 exam. The court also dismissed a petition challenging the decision of the National Testing Agency (NTA) to award compensatory marks to candidates from six centers due to lost time. Additionally, the court has permitted the cancellation of the current scorecards of the affected candidates.

The re-examination for the 1,563 affected candidates is expected to take place on June 23 as per the Supreme Court's instructions. It has been communicated that candidates who choose not to appear for the re-exam will have their original scores, without any grace marks, considered instead.

The NTA has informed that the re-test results are expected to be announced before June 30, with undergraduate medical counseling commencing on July 6. In response to petitions raising concerns about alleged malpractices in the NEET exam, the court has issued a notice and tagged it with petitions scheduled for July 8, one of which was filed by Physics CEO Alakh Pandey. The NEET UG result, which was announced on June 4, faced widespread disapproval from parents and students.

Many have called for a probe and re-examination, citing allegations of leaked papers at certain centers where students received unusually high scores. Additionally, there have been complaints about inflated marks for students who were awarded compensatory marks due to time loss. In a previous hearing, the Supreme Court expressed concerns that the integrity of the exam had been compromised and emphasized the need for answers from the National Testing Agency.
