CBSE Pioneers Skill Revolution: Schools to Launch Composite Skill Labs

Overview
CBSE urges schools to establish integrated skill labs for an enriched skill-based education.
For schools seeking fresh affiliation with CBSE, a composite skill lab with all necessary equipment and machinery is a mandatory requirement.
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has directed all affiliated schools to set up a 'Composite Skill Lab' with necessary equipment and machinery to effectively implement the recommendations of NEP and NCF-SE.
The CBSE has underscored the importance of establishing a 'Composite Skill Lab' in an official notification. The board believes that the lab will play a crucial role in providing practical skills training that aligns with industry requirements. This initiative aims to improve students' job prospects in various trades and vocations, encourage them to explore alternative career paths, and nurture their entrepreneurial abilities.
It has come to our attention that numerous schools currently do not have the essential facilities and equipment to offer effective hands-on training. This issue was deliberated in the 139th meeting of the Governing Body of the Board, and it was resolved that all schools affiliated with the Board must set up a 'Composite Skill Lab' with all the required equipment and machinery to seamlessly integrate the recommendations of NEP and NCF-SE," as stated in the official notification by the Board.
The Board has recommended that schools establish either one Composite Skill Lab with an area of 600 sq. ft. for classes VI-XII, or two separate labs with an area of 400 sq. ft. each, one for classes VI–X and the other for classes XI-XII.
Implementation Timeline: - Schools applying for new affiliation with CBSE must have a Composite Skill Lab equipped with all necessary machinery and equipment. - Existing CBSE-affiliated schools must establish a Composite Skill Lab with all required machinery and equipment within a three-year period.
CBSE has advised schools that currently offer Skill subjects to provide a wider range of choices for students by offering more Skill subjects. Schools that do not offer any Skill subjects are encouraged to provide at least one Skill subject option for students.
