Since its inception in 1954, South Point School in Kolkata has transformed into a beacon of academic brilliance and holistic education. The journey, marked by milestones, growth, and excellence, showcases a relentless commitment to nurturing young minds.
Under the visionary guidance of Shri Satikanta Guha and Smt. Pritylata Guha, the school's founders, South Point School has captured the popular imagination with its inspired mix of love, care, and responsibility. The initial faculty, comprising stalwarts from Bengal's cultural, literary, and artistic milieu, laid the foundation for a creative and purposeful environment.
The school's expansion, from a comely bungalow to newer, bigger buildings, reflects its commitment to accommodating more students while maintaining a high standard of education. Notably, South Point High School became the first co-educational school in Kolkata affiliated with the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education.
April holds a special significance in South Point's evolution, witnessing key milestones such as its upgradation to the Higher Secondary level in 1960 and the relocation to its present premises in 1970. The school, now run by the South Point Education Society, achieved global recognition by earning a place in the Guinness Book of Records (1984-1992) as the world's largest school.
The South Point family, comprising students, teachers, and non-teaching staff, numbering in the thousands, embraces a commitment to excellence, success, hard work, compassion, and technological strides. Education at South Point transcends traditional boundaries, encompassing academics, assessments, co-curricular activities, sports, celebrations, and excursions.
The alumni, affectionately known as Pointers, exemplify the school's success, achieving distinction in fields ranging from scholarship and films to music, public administration, science, medicine, literature, journalism, corporate endeavors, and sports.
Students at South Point School attend the primary section from class 1-5 before moving on to the high school section for grades 6-12.
South Point School's campus, fostering a delightful pool of learning, boasts carefree nursery playrooms, smart classrooms, a rewarding Mindspark program, and a collaborative atmosphere. The school consistently witnesses Pointers achieving top honors in board examinations, inter-school competitions, and diverse areas where talents and skills are discovered and projected.
The institution's commitment to safety and well-being is underscored by the OHSAS 18001:2007 Occupational Health and Safety Management Certification from the British Standards Institution (BSI), ensuring that South Point remains a secure and happy zone for its students.
South Point School stands as a splendid milestone in post-Independent Kolkata, poised to take on new challenges and fulfill ever-evolving expectations in the pursuit of academic excellence and holistic development.
