The Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme, initiated in the academic year
2006-07 by the Department of Ex-servicemen Welfare, Ministry of Defence, aims
to promote higher technical and professional education for the dependents of
Ex-Servicemen/Ex-Coast Guard personnel and their widows.
Every academic year, a total of 5500 (2750 boys and 2750 girls)
wards/widows of Ex-servicemen are chosen to receive the scholarship. The
selected students receive the scholarship amount annually for a duration of one
to five years, depending on the length of the courses approved by the relevant
regulatory bodies. The scholarship amount is set at ₹2500 per month for boys
and ₹3000 per month for girls.

Benefits:
Monthly
Stipend: The
scholarship provides a financial support of ₹2500 per month for male students
and ₹3000 per month for female students.
Annual
Disbursement:
The scholarship amount is disbursed annually to the selected students. The
duration of the scholarship ranges from one to five years, in accordance with
the length of the courses as recognized by the relevant regulatory bodies.
Selection
Quota: Each
academic year, a total of 5500 scholarships are awarded, equally distributed
between 2750 male and 2750 female dependents or widows of ex-servicemen.
Eligibility
Criteria:
Student
Status: The
applicant must be enrolled in the 1st year of their program (excluding those in
Lateral Entry or Integrated Courses).
Academic
Performance:
The applicant should have achieved a minimum of 60% in their Minimum
Educational Qualification (MEQ), which includes 10+2, Diploma, or Graduation.

differ based on the course chosen. Detailed information on MEQ requirements is

Dependence
Status: The
applicant must be a dependent ward or widow of ex-servicemen or ex-Coast Guard
personnel.
Priority
for Grant of Scholarship:
The
selection of candidates for the scholarship will be based on the following
order of preference:
Category
1: Dependents
and widows of ex-servicemen (ESM) or ex-Coast Guard personnel who were killed
in action.
Category
2: Dependents
of ESM or ex-Coast Guard personnel who sustained disabilities in action and
were subsequently discharged from service due to disabilities attributable to
military or Coast Guard service.
Category
3: Dependents
and widows of ESM or ex-Coast Guard personnel who died while in service as a
result of conditions attributable to military or Coast Guard service.
Category
4: Dependents
of ESM or ex-Coast Guard personnel who were disabled in service with
disabilities attributable to military or Coast Guard service.
Category
5: Dependents
and widows of ESM or ex-Coast Guard personnel who have been honored with
gallantry awards.
Category
6: Dependents
and widows of ESM or ex-Coast Guard personnel who are enlisted personnel below
officer rank (PBOR) only.
Application Process:
Online Submission
- Initial
Preparation: Visit
the KSB website at www.ksb.gov.in and navigate to the
"PMSS" (Prime Minister Scholarship Scheme) section. Download and
review Annexures 1, 2, and 3 from the list of required documents.
- Completion
of Annexures: Complete
the provided Annexures 1, 2, and 3 in their entirety. Ensure that you use
the specified formats provided and do not create or use alternate formats.
- Online
Application Portal: Access the online application portal by
selecting the "Apply Online" link under the PMSS section on the
KSB website. A new window will open.
- Document
Upload: Upload
your passport-sized photograph by clicking on the "Upload" icon.
- Registration: If you are a new user,
complete all required fields in Part-1 and Part-2, providing details of
the ex-serviceman (ESM). Click "Submit" to proceed.
- Account
Activation: Following
registration, the system will generate a login ID, password, and
activation link. These will be sent to the email address provided in
Part-1 of the registration.
- Login
and Dashboard Access: Activate your account by clicking the link
sent to your email. Once activated, log in using your User Name (Login ID)
and Password at www.ksb.gov.in. Access your dashboard by
selecting the "Login" button and entering your credentials.
- Application
Submission: On
your dashboard, select “New Application” and choose the Prime Minister
Scholarship Scheme. Complete all required fields in Part-1, Part-2, and
Part-3. Scan and upload all necessary documents in their original form,
ensuring legibility.
- Final
Steps: Save
your application and click “Forward” to submit. Note that the
responsibility to ensure the application is saved and forwarded lies with
the applicant. Verify the status of your application with your ZSB (Zila
Sainik Board) on their portal if needed.
Important Note: Each applicant is permitted to apply for only one
course.
Required Documents for Submission
- Ex-Servicemen / Ex-Coast
Guard Certificate: A completed and signed certificate by the
ZSB/Coast Guard HQ, as outlined in Annexure-1.
- Bonafide Certificate: A properly filled and
signed certificate by the Vice Chancellor, Principal, Vice Principal,
Dean, Associate Dean, Registrar, Deputy Registrar, Director, or Deputy
Director of the Institute/College, as specified in Annexure-2.
- Bank Certificate: A certificate from the
bank confirming that the Aadhaar Card of the student is linked with their
bank account number, as per Annexure-3.
- Matriculation Certificate: To verify the Date of
Birth.
- Minimum Educational
Qualification (MEQ) Certificate: Including, as applicable, the 10+2 mark
sheet, graduation mark sheets (for 3 years), or diploma mark sheets (for
all semesters).
- Bank Pass Book (1st Page): Preferably from PNB/SBI,
showing the student's name, account number, and the bank’s IFS code.
- Aadhaar Card: A copy of the student's
Aadhaar Card.
Exceptions
- Ineligibility of Civilians: Wards of
civilians, including Para Military Personnel, are not eligible for this
scholarship scheme.
- Limit on Eligible Wards: Only two wards
per ex-serviceman are eligible for this scholarship scheme.
- Eligibility for Distance Learning and Overseas Study: Students
studying abroad or pursuing distance learning programs are not eligible
for the PMSS (Prime Minister's Special Scholarship).
